In the Netherlands, 5 axle dump trucks (Ginaf, MAN, Mercedes, Scania, Terberg) with a loading capacity of ~25m3 (~ 30 ton) are frequently seen due to the allowed Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) is 50.000 kg. The model design took about 4 months to accomplish, whereof the biggest challenge turned out to be the 3rd axle lift mechanism. First, this axle is steered, but the steering must be disabled when lifted. Second, to assure the axle being lifted and locked in 'straight forward' position, an 'auto center' function was required.
A pneumatic system is applied to provide significant tipping force and stroke; the long range linear actuator did not exist in 2009.

The appearance of the truck is not based on a particular truck brand, although the dimensions of this model are based on the Ginaf x5450 truck.
I tried to be as much as realistic by applying details as: interior of the truck (dashboard, coffee machine, coffee cups), fuel tanks, air compressors between the rear wheels, raise-able wind deflector, spotlights, fire extinguisher, cabin doors open/close and more.
Drawbar trailer hook-up
A drawbar trailer for this truck is developed as well.
